MFL
Our Curriculum Intent
St. John’s school delivers an inclusive and high quality Modern Foreign Language (MFL) education, which aims for children to understand and respond to the spoken and written language and to communicate
effectively. Learning another language is always a valuable skill to have, especially in today’s modern world. The MFL curriculum allows children to recognise patterns and sounds and engage in conversations, using accurate pronunciation. MFL encourages children to broaden their vocabulary and enables them to use the skills they have learnt in real life. We provide a languages education that fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world.
The MFL taught at our school is Spanish. Spanish is spoken in many countries throughout the world and also has roots in other languages that our children may experience as they grow older. It is the intention that all children in KS2 will access quality teaching of Spanish in order to adequately prepare them for KS3 and beyond.
It is hope that this initial experience of formally learning an additional language will foster in our children a love of languages, which they can take with them throughout their lives.
