Pupil Wellbeing
At St. John's we are committed to ensuring the positive wellbeing of all of our students. We know that children cannot thrive academically if they are not supported emotionally. To support this, we conduct weekly PSHE lessons and Circle time lessons where we discuss events that are taking place in the media, and develop our understanding of healthy lifestyles, relationships and looking after our mental health. We also ensure the physical wellbeing of our pupils through weekly PE lessons and our commitment to being a Healthy School.
Classrooms have 'Worry Boxes' where children can post messages to their teacher if they feel they want to have a chat about something. St. John's has a Nurture Learning Mentor who supports children across the school with a range of needs, as well as giving advice for parents and carers.
We have a Nurture room that is a place for calm and reflection. Children can use this space to access emotional resilience support, play therapy, emotional support, social skills and nurture clubs with the school staff members.
Every year we acknowledge children's mental health week with activities about building emotional resilience and mental health awareness.
