St John’s of England Primary School

Pupil Wellbeing

At St. John's we are committed to ensuring the positive wellbeing of all of our students. We know that children cannot thrive academically if they are not supported emotionally.    To support this, we conduct weekly PSHE lessons and Circle time lessons where we discuss events that are taking place in the media, and develop our understanding of healthy lifestyles, relationships and looking after our mental health. We also ensure the physical wellbeing of our pupils through weekly PE lessons and our commitment to being a Healthy School.

We have a Nurture room that is a place for calm and reflection.  Children can use this space to access emotional resilience support, play therapy, emotional support, social skills and nurture clubs with  the school staff members.

Our nurture room has a 'worry box' that all children can have access to when they want to,  if they want to have a chat about something that is worrying them they can leave the Nurture Learning Mentor a note. The Nurture Learning Mentor supports children across the school with a range of needs, as well as giving advice for parents and carers.

Every year we acknowledge children's mental health week with activities about building emotional resilience and mental health awareness.
